What do I wear to court?
What should I wear to court?
Wear something that conveys who you are but in a professional way. Some people try to use their clothing as evidence to prove their case (wearing ripped clothes when asking for support or a full suit to show they are responsible), but that almost never works. For example, I had a client who was a typical kindergarten schoolteacher. For her custody hearing, she wore a nice sundress and a sweater cardigan. She looked professional, comfortable, and it conveyed who she was to the judge. Putting her in a full suit would have made her feel out of place and she would have come across as inauthentic.
