Why can’t I find a lawyer to talk to me right now?
It happens every day. You call a divorce lawyer’s office and find out that you can’t get an appointment for 1 or 2 weeks – sometimes it even takes 3 or 4! The bigger the firm, the longer it takes to make the appointment. Some lawyers will talk to you on the phone and others make you wait to see them in person. More often, you end up talking to an assistant or paralegal and not the lawyer. The reason for the delay is complex – lawyers regularly have full schedules with court appointments, other client meetings, and conferences, but they also have to complete what is known as a “conflicts check”. This is a system for lawyers to examine their current client list (and pending appointments) against a potential new client to determine if this new client will create a conflict of interest with a current client representation. Larger firms have more complex systems to not only check that lawyer’s client and appointment list, but they check every list for every lawyer in their firm. This delay results in undue stress, worry, and anxiety.
DivorcePlus has an automatic 24-hour hold period on all appointments with lawyers. This hold period provides the lawyer time to check their list of current clients or pending appointments and verify that they don’t have a conflict in meeting with you. If you have already met with a lawyer before and want to see that same lawyer within the 24-hour hold period, please email them directly and they can provide you with any available appointments within that time. You may also request the next open time with that lawyer and add a memo for them to move you to a sooner time if it is available. This reduced hold time period allows you to reach a divorce lawyer faster and without as much stress.

Is the platform secure?
DivorcePlus maintains limited customer information; specifically maintaining emails and passwords necessary to obtain access to the moderated community forum. DivorcePlus secures all other information through a system of integrations with industry leaders.
All scheduling and work flow reminders for appointments are secured through the Calendly platform which ensures that all connections from the browser to the Calendly platform are encrypted in transit using TLS SHA-256 with RSA Encryption. Additionally, all data is encrypted at rest, user passwords are stored as salted password hashes, and user passwords for the iCloud Calendar integration are encrypted.
Zoom, our virtual conference integration uses both asymmetric and symmetric algorithms to encrypt the chat session. Private keys are generated on the device and not shared. This ensures that the session cannot be eavesdropped on or tampered with. Additional security measures may be implemented by the professional provider (example: enabling waiting room, requiring passwords, and disabling recording).
All payments are processed through Stripe which encrypts all charge cards at rest with AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on separate machines. None of Stripe’s internal servers and daemons can obtain plain text card numbers but can request that cards are sent to a service provider on a static allowlist. Stripe’s infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in a separate hosting environment, and doesn’t share any credentials with Stripe’s primary services including our API and website.
